Heute ist der erste Tag nach der Vorrunde und mal kein Fußballspiel zu verfolgen. Gut, dass wir in Paris sind und ein paar Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchen konnten. Wir starteten am Triumphbogen, zogen dann zum Eiffelturm, nahmen Notre Dame mit und beendeten unsere Tour am Pariser Rathaus.

Today is the first day without football games so we toomk the chance for some sightseeing. We started at the Arc de Trioumph, went to the Eiffel Tower, had a quick look in Notre Dame and finalized the tour at Paris‘ Town Hall.

Auch Effi ist nur eine Frau und hat ab und zu eine Aufmerksamkeit verdient. Da dürfen Blumen natürlich nicht fehlen.

They are everywhere. Although they are not qualified, they join the EURO and have fun. We met them in a bar in St. Denis yesterday.

Gestern ließen wir die Gegend um Lens hinter uns, die ein wenig an meine Heimat erinnert. Jedenfalls prägen auch hier die Halden das Bild der Landschaft.

Yesterday we left the area around Lens which remembers me to home a little bit. Nevertheless, the mining mountains are also typical for my home land.

Was für ein Hammerspiel! Was auf dem Papier wie ein zahnloser Tiger wirkte, erwies sich in der Realität als rassiges Fußballspiel. Ein kampfbetontes Spiel, ohne viel Techtelmechtel, Schwalben und anderen Krams. Spannend bis zur letzten Minute, was auch dem Support seitens der Zuschauer keinen Abriss tat. Die Österreicher waren hier in der Überzahl, aber es ist schon bemerkenswert, was von der kleinen Insel nach Frankreich kommt. Man könnte glatt meinen, wenn Island spielt, ist die Insel entvölkert. Wir dürfen dieses sympathische Völkchen auf jeden Fall noch einmal live im Stadion verfolgen, wenn es gegen England spielt.

What a f… game! I did expect a boring game, but in reality it was really one of the highlights in this EURO. A fighting game with no dives and no discussions. It was the good old football from the good old days. The support was great. The majority of the people in the stadium was from Austria, but it is amazing how many supporters are from Iceland. It seems so that the island is empty when they are playing at the EURO. We have the chance to see them against England again. We are really looking forward to it.

Wir sind in Paris! Genauer gesagt im Stade de France, um aus unserer Sicht den Höhepunkt der EM zu verfolgen … Österreich gegen Island. Sachertorte gegen Walfleisch. Alpen gegen Vulkan. Mozart gegen Björk.
Leider mussten wir unsere Fahne abgeben. Das Stadtwappen hatte wohl nicht so gefallen.

We are in Paris! Exactly in Stade de France watching our highlight of the EURO … Austria vs. Iceland. Sacher cake vs. Whale meat. Alps vs. volcanoes. Mozart vs. Björk.
Unfortunately we could not bring our flag into the stadium. The icon of the city was suspect.

Obwohl wir auf der Fanmeile sehr viele Tschechen gesehen haben, war das Stadion dann fest in türkischer Hand. Die machten hierbei so viel Rabatz, dass es wie ein gefühltes Heimspiel war.

Although we saw a lot of Czech supporters in the fan zone, the stadium itself was full of Turkish guys. They made a great support and let feel their team  as being home.

Das mit der deutschen Fahne ist immer nicht so einfach. Gerade wenn die Belgier auch noch im Turnier sind 🙂

It is not so easy for the volunteers to find the correct German flag. It is getting more complex if also Belgium is already in the tournament.

Dieses Mal haben wir unsere Effi nicht direkt in Lens, sondern außerhalb im kleinen Dörfchen Grenay untergestellt. Die Caravanplätze waren nagelneu und schienen direkt für die UEFA gebaut worden zu sein. Vielleicht waren sie auch zu neu, da es leider nur einen Wasseranschluss, aber keinen Stromanschluss gab, obwohl dies so verzeichnet war. Nun ja, Schwamm drüber.

Von Grenay machten wir uns dann mit dem Zug auf nach Lens. Die Stadt ist nicht sonderlich groß, was man schon daran merkt, dass Stadion und Fanzone fußläufig sind. So machten wir uns vor unserem Livespiel in der Fanzone bequem und schauten noch die Begegnung Deutschland gegen Nordirland.

At this time we haven’t parked Effi in the city centre of Lens, but in the small village Grenay near by. The caravan parking was really new and seems to be established just for the EURO 2016. It was so new, that they missed the electricity stuff. But at least we have water for the daily shower.

In the afternoon we took the train from Grenay to Lens. The city isn’t so big so that stadium and city centre with fan zone are in walking distance. So we used the fan zone to watch the game between Germany and Northern Ireland.

Die Normandie hinter uns gelassen, erreichten wir gegen 15:30 Uhr die Bergbauregion um Lens, um das Spiel der Tschechen gegen die Türken live im Stadium zu sehen. Wenn alles klappt, weht heute Stachelbergfahne.

Today’s morning we left Normandy and arrived the mining area of Lens around 15h30 to visit the game of Czech Republic against Turkey. May we have a chance to hang on our Stachelberg flag. Just check on TV.
