Nachdem nun die Achtelfinalpartien beendet sind, stand für uns gestern auch ein Erholungstag an. Wir schnappten uns Effi und manövrierten sie auf einen Fünf-Sterne-Campingplatz in Bormes-Les-Mimosas. Dieser Platz hat neben vielem Schnickschnack auch einen eigenen Badestrand, den wir dann heute auch ausgiebig zur Erholung genutzt haben. Hier bleiben wir dann auch bis morgen.

After the Round of 16 is over we also used yesterday as a rest day. We went to Bormes-Les-Mimosas to a five star camping ground. The area provides a lot of goodies and also a camp beach which we already used yesterday. We will stay at this ground until tomorrow.

Manche Konzepte für Massenveranstaltungen sind für den Laien unerklärlich. Aber wahrscheinlich muss man das Große und Ganze betrachten, um sie zu verstehen. In Nizza hatte man sich nun überlegt, für den Shuttlebus zwischen Fanzone und Stadion eine Gebühr von 3,00 Euro zu verlangen. Nun ist es so, dass man für die Eintrittskarte zum Stadion nicht schon einen Haufen Kohle liegen lässt, vielleicht hätte man sich den Betrag dann sparen können. So fördert dieses Vorgehen bei den Fans einen erheblichen Unmut, den man hätte leicht vermeiden können.

Die Endhaltestelle des Shuttlebus war dann meilenweit vom Stadion entfernt. Ein Fußmarsch von 20 Minuten musste bewältigt werden, um letztendlich am Stadion zu sein. Das hätte man auch besser regeln können, noch dazu, da am Stadion größere Plätze für die Shuttlebusse zur Verfügung standen.

Nun aber genug der Organisationskritik. Es war ja nicht alles schlecht. Nur die Engländer 🙂 … verdient bezwang Island die Inselmannschaft. Wer gegen tiefstehende Isländer kein anderes Mittel als hohe Bälle sieht und seine Angriffsbemühungen in Zeitlupentempo vorantreibt, hat nichts anderes als das Ausscheiden im Achtelfinale verdient.

I am not sure who is responsible for the concepts of mass events, but I am sure that its correctness is not always understandable for the normal people. The concept in Nice was a ticket fare of 3,00 Euro which you had to pay for the shuttle bus between fan zone and stadium. I mean the ticket for the stadium was really expensive and it should be possible that the fare for shuttle buses is included in the stadium ticket. Otherwise, all the people had to pay and were really unhappy about the situation. It is normally a source for violence of the supporters.

Furthermore the bus stop was quite far away from the stadium so the spectators had to take a walk of 20 minutes. There were better options near the stadium to stop the shuttles there. But who cares. It’s UEFA country!

Ok, besides the comments on the organization of the game I would like to report also the impressions of the game. I am always surprised of the English support but this time it was discusting. The people from Iceland made a lot of sound and were really better than the Poms. Furthermore also the best team took the opportunity going to the quarter final. Every movement of the English was like in slow motion. They had not really a concept to disturb the defence of the Vikings. It’s a shame for England, but a great victory for Iceland.

Nizza … Stadt der Schönen und Reichen. Stadt an der Cote d’Azur. Mediterranes Klima, azurblaues Wasser, strahlender Sonnenschein bei wolkenlosen Himmel. Hier hat es uns also hinverschlagen, um das Spiel England gegen Island zu verfolgen. Die Anreise klappte mal wieder problemlos und der gegoogelte Campingplatz hatte noch einen Stellplatz für unsere Effi parat. Die Rezeptionistin konnte sogar Deutsch und empfahl uns, den Besuch des Stadions mit dem Fahrrad zu erledigen, da ab 23:00 Uhr keine Busse mehr fahren. Auf jedem Fall empfahl sie uns, mit dem Fahrrad wenigstens bis zum Flughafen zu fahren, da von dort Shuttlebusse zum Stadion und zurück eingerichtet sind.

Die kleine Radtour erwies sich durch den Fahrtwind als sehr erfrischend und ging schnell vorbei. Wir erreichten den Flughafen auf dem dafür vorgesehenen Radweg und stellten die Räder auf den Fahrradparkplätzen ab. Innerlich verabschiedete ich mich schon von meinem Rad. Bei den Fahrradschlössern der hier abgestellten Mopeds und Räder, erwies sich unseres als geradezu lächerlich.

Nun gut, mit dem Shuttlebus ging es dann erst einmal nach Nizza rein, um die Fanzone zu besuchen. Diese lag bei den Albert I. Gärten und war bei Weitem nicht ganz so groß wie wir es in den anderen Städten erlebt hatten. Wir schauten dann die erste Halbzeit der Italiener gegen die Spanier und machten uns dann auf ins Stadion.

Nice … City of the Beauties and the Rich. City at the Cote d’Azur. Mediterranian climate, azure blue water, perfect sunshine under a cloudless sky. Perfect location watching the game between England and Iceland. The drive was execellent and the campground had also a pitch for our Effi. The lady at the reception could speak German and adviced us to go by bike to the stadium as the there is no public transport to the campground after 23h00. Nevertheless, we should go by bike at least until the airport as from there a shuttle bus service is established to the stadium.

The cycling tour was great as the wind was cooling down us. We arrived at the airport and parked the bikes at the specific pitches. Honestly, I said good bye to my bike as the locks of the other vehicles were bigger than ours.

Oki doki, we used then a shuttle bus to the fan zone in Nice watching the first half time between Spain and Italy. Afterwards we went then to the stadium.

Die Italienerin neben mir interessierte das Spiel überhaupt nicht. Sie brachte sich eine Illustrierte mit und blätterte es während des Spiels einfach durch. Ein sehr teures Hobby 🙂

The Italian woman besides me in the stadium was not very interested in the game. She had a magazine and was focused more into it than in the game. A really expensive hobby 🙂

Nach fast 6 Stunden Fahrt erreichten wir Toulouse ganz im Süden von Frankreich, um die Achtelfinalpartie zwischen den roten Teufeln aus Belgien und den feurigen Ungarn live im Stadion zu verfolgen. Leider kamen wir erst zum Anpfiff zu unseren Plätzen, da wir für unsere Effi noch einen gescheiten Campingplatz finden mussten. Das hatte etwas gedauert, aber wir konnten dadurch auf dem Campingplatz noch das Deutschlandspiel verfolgen.

Obwohl auf dem Papier nicht sonderlich attraktiv, entwickelte sich die Partie sehr rassig. Beide Mannschaften wurden durch einen sehr guten Support unterstützt. Belgien machte das frühe Tor, was aber den Anfeuerungsrufen der Ungarn keinen Abbruch tat. Es machte Spaß, dieses Spiel live im Stadion zu verfolgen. Leider war der Sieg der Belgier mit 4:0 doch etwas hoch, aber was soll’s? Morgen geht es weiter nach Nizza zu den Engländern.

After six hours on the motorway we arrived Toulouse watching the Best of 16 Round between the Red Devils from Belgium and the dervish guys from Hungary. Unfortunately we were late in the stadium as we had to find a good camping ground for Effi. It tooks longer than expected but we had also the chance watching the Germany game at the camping ground.

Although the game seems not to be very attractive, in reality it was a great fun. Both supporter groups made it magnificent. Belgium made the first goal, but the fans of Hungary did not stop their support. Excellent! Unfortunately the victory of 4:0 was a little bit to high for Belgium, but who cares? Tomorrow we continue the journey to Nice watching the England game.

Dort, wo König Zlatan I. noch vor Wochen sein Unwesen trieb, fand heute das Achtelfinale zwischen Wales und Nordirland statt. Der Prinzenpark präsentierte sich von seiner besten Seite, obwohl er auch schon recht viele Jahre auf dem Buckel hat. Die Sitze waren recht eng gestaffelt und so richtig wusste man auch nicht, wie man seine Beine noch verrenken sollte, um sich in den Sitz zu falten. Zeugte das Geschehen auf dem Rasen eher von einem Drittligaspiel, so waren die Gesänge auf den Rängen erstklassig. Mal sehen, wie lange die Waliser das noch durchhalten.

Today we could visit King Zlatan’s ex home watching the game between Wales and Northern Ireland in Parc des Princes in Paris. The seats were very tight and there was no chance to organize a good mood for your legs. Nevertheless, the game was more a third league game, but the support from the stages were top of the best. I am really curious how long the Welsh will continue their strike in the EURO.

Für unseren letzten Tag in Paris wollten wir uns unbedingt noch einmal den Obelisken auf dem Place de la Concorde, dann den Elyseepalast, dann die Champs Elysee, die Alexanderbrücke und den Invalidendom anschauen. Den Abschluss unseres Rundgangs sollte dann die Fanzone vor dem Eiffelturm sein.

For our last day in Paris we decided to have a tour starting from Place de la Concorde continuing over Elysee Palace, Champs Elysee, Alexandre III. Bridge and the Invalides Cathedral. The end of the tour was then the fan zone in front of the Eiffeltumr.
